As construction winds down, we are excited to share the renewed downtown Red Wing with our guests. The last two years have seen amazing changes in our historic rivertown. A newly revamped mainstreet and historic district, with exciting new shops to explore, a selection of new restaurants to tempt the palate, and revitalized parks for outdoor enthusiasts. Two vineyards, a microbrewery, concerts in the park and the reopened Mississippi National Golf Course offer relaxing diversions. And, of course, the charm of a century and a half of Red Wing history make for a perfect escape only an hour south of the Twin Cities.
One thing you won’t find changed is the warm reception, comfortable rooms and suites, and attention to detail offered at the Golden Lantern Inn. Our extensive gardens and outdoor fireplace welcome guests at any hour. Breakfast, made with fresh produce from our gardens, farm fresh eggs, and local ingredients is still delivered to your room or served on our sunporch. As always, rooms are supplied with luxurious towels and linens, bath oils and soaps. Home baked cookies at check-in, as well as complementary wine and appetizers on weekends are an inn staple.
To celebrate, we are offering and end-of-construction special. From now until July 31st, book a two-night stay Sunday-Friday and receive a 10% off of our published rates. We invite you to re-experience Red Wing and the Golden Lantern Inn.
It’s the age old decision when it comes to decorating for the holidays. Stick with the old, the dear, the comfortable, or try something new, fresh, over-the-top? For me, the answer lies somewhere in the middle, with a tilt towards the traditional. I love the tried and true, the satisfaction that comes from finding a look that works, and sticking with it. Part of that is probably due to the fact that I live in a beautiful old house steeped in tradition. Somehow its still exciting to pull out the Christmas decoration boxes and find all the old friends inside. But still, I am constantly finding new and interesting ideas in magazines, catalogs and in the homes of friends. So at the Inn, our solution is to pick one room, one fireplace or mantle, one window or wall each year to try something new. Then too, once we have an idea of what we are looking for, it’s the thrill of the hunt. Searching at auctions, thrift stores, on ebay, crafting websites etc. to find just the pieces we’d like to display. I like this compromise, surrounded by the loved and familiar, but with something new to look forward to. I wish you all a joyful and serene holiday season! Sioux
Here at the Golden Lantern Inn, we are excited about the newest addition to the Red Wing tradition. It’s been a long wait- sixty years since the last one closed – but this month Red Wing will see the opening of a new craft brewery. The Red Wing Brewing Company is set to open it’s doors sometime this month, they are just waiting for the beer to age to perfection. This microbrewery plans to revive some old time recipes, including Remmler’s Royal Brew and Red Wing Premium, as well as introducing some new craft beers. They will also make a house root beer. These brews will be available only on site, so plan a trip to Red Wing to try out our newest attraction. The Red Wing Brewing Company will also serve sandwiches, soups and other lighter fare. For more information, check out their web site at http://www.redwing brewing.com.
